A New series by LAuruS Myth My work is based on patterns found in nature that have lead to patterns used in modern technology. Not only do these symbols relate to each other visually, but they also function as patterns that guide flows of energy throughout machines and plant life. Connecting and converting this energy into the power that lies within human life and purpose, fuels my motives and creative inspiration. My hope is to capture the essence of vibration through the repetition of organic and geometric shapes. A plethora of environmental vibrations transform through colors to expose the core joy of my work as I attempt to bridge my own concepts of power. One source of power is sold as a commodity, and the other is simply generated within living organisms. Sources to support our human needs, such as solar, wind, biomass, and nuclear, are found externally in our environment, and I believe are also indistinguishable from our oneness and inner light. The balance between these two realms brings us closer to our collective achievements for energy. I believe that finding ways to converge the ideas of art and science, nature and technology, and “us” as the environment is the purpose of my current work. The interweaving of nature-spaces and microprocessor components in my paintings create a colorful kaleidoscope of this fusion of a world we live in.
-November 2010: We are all channels, vessels in this universe, open to all energy that exists if we choose. It is thru this energy that my paintings come to be. Layers of colors through pattern represent this physical realm and vibrational space. Patterns such as these, have been used throughout the ages of humanity’s existence in different culture. They act as a key , continually reappearing over time, and the message is always the same. Nonetheless , the unity the patterns present depict my feeling of oneness throughout the ages. I like to inspire growth in any direction, thru freedom and creativity. Through painting I hope to evoke this sense of freedom through chaos and balance. As a vessel, this energy and these symbols were given through me as a reflection of the vibrational frequencies of this place. Let the vision of this metaphysical universe open your channel through it’s playful kindness and ecstatic vibrance!
-January 2010: My current interest is in the relationship between the Silicon Valley’s native environment and its technological developments. Through my research I have found patterns in geography, and native plants that are used by nature to guide energy like photosynthesis and leaf veins. The landscape of the Valley and the Bay area can be seen as a tide pool or a womb, where life and energy rushes in, accumulates, and develops exponentially. Being influenced by the dense forest that surrounds me, I see the redwood trees as a competitive species, tallest of them all reaching highest to the sun. If you can’t grow in shade of a giant, or don’t have the genetic stability, natural selection will decide. The Redwood forests specific to the California coast reflect the conglomeration of computer companies that continue to reach higher up the chain. Whoever creates the next best design, discovery, or product will survive in the Silicon valley. Like plant veins and growth patterns, the Silicon Wafer and all computer circuitry conducts electricity through patterns imprinted onto the wafer layers. Using patterns from the wafers and the native environment, I explore the unity of these two contrasting ideas, nature and technology, through a visual flora of patterns from both realms.
-January 2009: My paintings are related to the natural world and depict a fusion of symbolic and cultural forms. I also draw inspiration from plant forms, technological creations, and patterns in cultural symbols that I’ve encountered through my experiences. These forms are interpreted in my paintings through pattern, repetition, and symmetry. Furthermore, shapes and symbols combine and layer in a pictorial representation of a living, pulsing, and fantastical world. In nature, cycles of growth and decay repeat and create patterns of life. While examining the processes of life, we can find common ground with all living things. Plant and animal anatomy reflects symmetry in nature, inspiring my interest in symmetrical expression. In addition, I want the receding and expanding sense of organic shapes to evoke a sense of visual euphoria. Vibrations of color as well as an underlying symbolic pattern help lend to this euphoria of sensation. My previous studies have been based on symbolic Chinese and Celtic traditional art forms and that trace the roots of my heritage, ultimately expressing a union of ideas from both the east and west. An observance of traditions and meanings is often layered throughout my work to form a visual expression of ecstasy and pattern. Moreover, I often articulate myself through a colorful combustion, which can be derived from the celebration of culture and nature.
